The game offers 5 modes of play, as well with single player and online multiplayer. Now it's sequel has come out as a stand alone game, and it couldn't capture the magic of the original any better. If you're not familiar with it, Element TD was one of the first big Tower Defense games birthed from the Warcraft 3 Custom map engine. That map is my favorite but there's plenty of them so just try them out and see which one you like the best.The newest version of Element TD released on the Steam store a few days ago, and it's probably flying under the radar of a lot of people even old fogeys like me.
Also the final upgrade of the air tower that costs 20,000 gold lets it target land units too, so once you get to that stage it's just good to have around. That one has the added difficulty where you have to know when to sell certain towers and build / upgrade others - for example the multi tower is useless on fortified or divine waves, but it works pretty well on air up until the dark Phoenix wave and then you should start building air. If I'm thinking of the same one you are, it's the one where you can sell towers for 100% of their gold cost unless they're at the highest upgrade level.
Honestly the best way is to just try them and see - generally starting with a siege tower and a poison tower is a good plan, but the one where you can start with a multi tower starts easy an gets hard later on. There's also several variations within those two formats. I like Circle the best, but that's just me.
Green TD is similar to Wintermaul in that once the creeps reach the end of the path you lose lives, while Green Circle you lose once the total amount of creeps in the map exceed 700. Generally there's two formats, Green TD and Green Circle TD. There's several versions, including a team version which is just competitive and I don't like it very much.
